Stars like Magic Johnson and Usher were present at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Hollywood, California for the 7th annual “Big Fighers Big Cause” charity boxing night and gala. Organized by the Sugard Ray Leonard Foundation and B. Riley & Co. and promoted by Golden Boy, the event raises funds for research in and prevention of pediatric diabetes. Actor and comedian, Bill Bellamy hosted the event as VIP guests watched professional bouts and participated in live and silent auctions of rare sports memorabilia.
In previous years, the event was promoted by the late Michael King, a long-time friend of Sugar Ray Leonard and a staunch supporter of the boxer’s Foundation. With his wife, Bernadette, Sugar Ray wanted to honor King’s legacy and contributions. They approached SARTONK with the idea of presenting King’s family with an authentic championship boxing belt.
"As soon as this request was made, we knew we wanted to be a part of this special event. We understood how deeply the Leonards wanted to show their love and appreciation to the King family and we also wanted to support the fundraising effort for research in childhood diabetes,” commented Ed Majian, President of SARTONK.
After the national anthem was sung by Michael King’s daughter, Ali, Sugar Ray invited the King family into the ring and presented the belt. "I want to personally thank SARTONK for their participation and creation of a beautifully crafted championship belt for another champion, the late Michael King. Thank you for helping to make the day special and successful,” initmated Mr. Leonard.
