The Ali-King Essay contest is a literacy promotion and empowerment initiative for youth in boxing. Named after Muhammad Ali and Martin Luther King, Jr., it challenges youth to think about the similarities between these two seemingly opposite historical figures. Meant to inspire self-reflection, critical thinking, and curiosity, it poses questions about the social and historical significance of the sport as well as the impact of boxing on participants’ own lives.
At SARTONK, we value critical thinking and literacy, and equal access to education.
The Ali-King Award has been sponsored by all of boxing’s major sanctioning bodies as well as amateur organizations and celebrities.
